Privacy Policy

BetterDraft collects as little about you as it can: an email address so you can sign in, your FPL Draft team ID so we can show your league, and the settings you choose. We don't sell your data, show adverts or track you around the web.
1. Who we are
BetterDraft (betterdraft.co.uk) is run by an independent developer based in the United States. For data protection law, that makes us the "controller" of the personal data described here.
Questions, or anything you'd like us to do with your data: email hello@betterdraft.co.uk.
2. What we collect
When you create an account
- Your email address, to sign you in, confirm your account and reset your password.
- Your password, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider. Nobody at BetterDraft can see it.
- Your FPL Draft team ID (and the league it belongs to), so the app opens on your team and league.
When you use the app
- Your settings, saved to your account so they follow you between devices: your league and team, your watchlist, your waiver plans, lineups you plan with the team builder, and display choices such as how many gameweeks to look ahead.
- Your IP address, held in our server's memory for about a minute to stop anyone overloading the site. Our server doesn't save it, but our hosting provider may keep short-lived technical logs (see section 4).
- Sign-in records: when you sign in, our sign-in provider (Supabase) records the time, your IP address and your browser or device, to keep accounts secure and spot misuse.
Fantasy Premier League data
To show your league, our server fetches public information from the Fantasy Premier League Draft service, such as team names, squads, fixtures and results. We don't send your email address or any other account details to Fantasy Premier League.
For our "ownership across leagues" figures, we keep league-level totals (for example, how many leagues own a player). We don't store managers' names.
3. Why we use it
| What | Why | Legal basis (UK and EU GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Email and password | Creating your account, signing you in, sending sign-up and password-reset emails | Needed to provide the service you asked for (contract) |
| Team ID, league and settings | Showing your team and league, and keeping your settings across devices | Needed to provide the service (contract) |
| IP address and sign-in records | Keeping the site and your account secure and available for everyone | Our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable site |
We only send emails you need for your account. We don't send marketing emails. If that ever changes, we'll ask first and you'll be able to say no.
4. Who handles your data
We use a few trusted companies to run BetterDraft. They handle data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: accounts, sign-in and our database (your email, team ID and saved settings).
- Resend: sends our account emails (sign-up confirmation and password reset), so it receives your email address.
- Render: hosts the website and our server.
- Google Fonts: your browser downloads the site's fonts from Google, which means Google sees your IP address.
We don't sell or rent your data to anyone. We'd only share it if the law required us to.
Transfers outside the UK and EU
Some of these companies store or process data outside the UK and the European Union, including in the United States, and BetterDraft itself is run from the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses (with the UK Addendum), through these companies' data protection terms.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account (email, team ID, settings): until you delete it. Once you ask, we delete it within 30 days.
- Account emails: our email provider keeps delivery records for a limited time under its own retention policy.
- IP addresses: about a minute in our server's memory. Sign-in records are kept by Supabase for a limited time for security, and deleted with your account.
6. Cookies and storage on your device
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, so you won't see a cookie banner. We only store what the site needs to work:
- One cookie,
bd_in: remembers that you're signed in, so the home page can show "Open the app". It lasts up to a year and is removed when you sign out. - Your browser's local storage: keeps you signed in and holds your settings, so pages load quickly.
7. Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law (the GDPR), and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your data and your account
- limit or object to how we use it
- send your data to you or another service in a usable format.
You can delete your account yourself at any time: open your profile in the app and choose Delete my account. For anything else, or if you can't sign in, email hello@betterdraft.co.uk from the address on your account. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to a data protection regulator: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk; in the EU, the authority in the country where you live (list of EU authorities). We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
8. Children
BetterDraft is for people aged 13 and over. If you're under 13, please don't create an account. If we find out that a child under 13 has signed up, we'll delete the account.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects you significantly, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
